FAQ

  • Should I buy my own laser?

While it may be tempting to buy a laser when you are starting out, we strongly recommend that you focus on learning design and file setup first. There are a number of great laser cutting services which allow you to get started easily and affordably without the hassle or expense of your own machine. We recommend Vector Etch ;)

  • Do I have to use Adobe® Illustrator®?

While there are other types of software that will allow you to do similar things, our courses centre around Adobe® Illustrator®. This is the industry standard with the best compatibility for the output that the lasers require.

  • Can I take the course at my own pace?

Yes, you certainly can. We all have different situations and schedules, so we’ve made the courses flexible for you to learn at your own pace. All of our courses are presented online and yours to keep, forever.

  • Do you have payment plans available?

Yes. We have a payment plans available for each course. We love being flexible and open about payment and want to help you out any way we can. Please contact us if you have any further questions about this and we would be happy to help.

  • Can my organisation purchase this course on my behalf?

Of course! We often have teachers who’re in the course who would like to learn in order to pass on knowledge to their students or designers who want to upskill. Please email us at hello@lazerunicorn.co with your personal and school/organisation details for me to invoice.

  • Do you guide us through how to download Adobe® Illustrator® software?

Yes, I show you how to download, how to open it for the first time, and how to set it up exactly for your laser cutting design.

The software is available for download via Adobe®. There’s a free 7 day trial, afterwards is available for purchase on an annual or monthly subscription.

  • I suck at technology and don’t think I’ll be able to follow along?

We all suck when we first start something new. That’s okay. Initially it may be uncomfortable, but I’m here to hold your hand (virtually) and show you only what you need to know to limit the overwhelm. After watching over my shoulder, starting hands-on with a practice file, you’ll have what it takes to bring your designs to life. I have helped people from complete beginner through to advanced graphic designers to become confident with creating laser cutting files.

  • Is this course going to teach me how to be creative, or is it about learning how to set up the ideas I already have?

This is a course that brings your creative ideas to life. This is not a course to learn how to be creative or how to draw. The course will explore the technical skills and methods to allow you to create efficient and precise laser cutting vector files every time.

  • Is there an expiration on my access to the courses?

These lessons, videos and resources are yours forever. In the event they’re taken down, I’ll let you know via email, or if the internet dies for everyone, I think we’ll have a bigger problem on our hands.

  • What if I’m not available to attend the live online workshops?

The online workshops are recorded and will be available for you after the original online class takes place. Please allow 2-3 days for videos to be released after they are recorded.

  • Registration is currently closed... what does that mean?

We typically run our courses a few times each year. This allows us to work through the current enrolment period with our lovely students before the next intake. Check the ‘Courses’ page for upcoming enrolment dates, or reach out if you’re unsure.

  • I don't live in Australia but I want to learn!

All of our courses are run online and are yours to access forever. Learn from anywhere in the world, at your own pace!
